Burning the midnight oil
Hi there, making reference to the idiom in my first post: "Burning the midnight oil".........this expression means ... to stay up to late, studying or working far into the night. Origin of this idiom:
Originally this was by the light of an oil lamp or candle, at a time where there was no electric lighting oil had to be burnt to keep the light on.
More recently, the phrase is used figuratively, alluding back its use before electric lighting. Then while oil burns someone else is staying up to late far into the night.
Bye for now.
